Friday
29th October
Barb hasn't been feeling too well for a couple of days now and today is
looking like it's the peak of whatever it is she has. Poor thing
looks too weak to do. We've tried a few things that I had in my
medicine bag to see if they would help, but no joy for the poor
girl. Today needs to be spent laying on the couch and sleeping.
Miranda had to take some caulk back to Lowes hardware store as it was
the wrong stuff, so, I went with her. It wasn't Bunnings but I
didn't really wander around to find out, I headed straight for the
Christmas section. Bunnings eat your heart out. The range
of lights they have here would look really good in my place, pity I can
use them unless someone out there knows how to adapt 110 volts to 240
volts without blowing them up. The yard ornaments were soooooo
cute, I'm sure the kids would love to see some of those in nan's
garden. The decorations were plentiful but too many to bring
home, but I did manage to pick up a couple of items for my village.
small items of cours and not illuminated ones. Anyway, need to
wait until the short sighted meter reader has fixed my bill before I
start burning Christmas lights.
Back home and I managed to get the rest of my Canada trip uploaded to
the web.
Saturday 30th October
After a restful morning, Barb was feeling much better and felt up to a
drive to Annapolis, the state capitol of Maryland. It is located
on the Chesapeake Bay & Severn River. We dropped Laura off at
work for 2pm and
headed down the highway, more beautiful colours but I've given you a
reprieve, no tree photo's. On arriving on the harbour we did
another first for Barb, a harbour cruise, passing by the naval academy,
with good views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. In the photo's you
will see a post with a green light on top, on the corner sea wall, this
is called
Triton
Light and contains water from 22 of the world's seas.
It was quite a windy cruise but still very enjoyable and it was a treat
to watch Barb's face. We were even impressed with the jet stream
in the sky, it was almost a noughts and crosses diagram. There
was a lot to see in Annapolis and I'm sure we saw only a small part of
it. The shops were good, especially the Christmas shop, and
surprise, shock or whatever, I never took my purse out of my bag.
Lunch was a real treat, a first for me, a hot brie, honey and almond
roll, very sticky but it did taste good.
We also had a wander around some of the residential area taking photo's
of the decorations in some of the yards. People were getting
ready for Halloween, Thanksgiving or both as you will see in the
photo's. The houses themselves were interesting in the different
styles of architecture, colours and the way the wiring ran on some
house made me wonder how they didn't lost utilities on rainy
days. Brandon would love this place for skeletons for his room,
sorry sweetheart but I can't fit them in my suitcase or I would have
brought you one home.
We had a wander around the state house, Governer's residence &
gardens before heading back to the car, via the souvenir shopps, and
yes, I did get my purse out this time. Barb and I were both
shattered by time we got to the lift for the car park. I asked
her if she was ok to drive home as I couldn't do it. She assured
me she was fine and I headed straight for the driver side of the
car. Barb asked if I was sure I wasn't driving home and it didn't
dawn on me at first what she meant. Duh George.
We arrived home to some warm fudge made by YaYa. It was
goooooooood.
