Saturday 9th October
Today I was booked on a bus tour with another group for a trip to
Whistler Mountain. On the way we had stops at Horshoe Bay,
Shannon Fall, a town called Squamish (pronounced as in Amish).
Shannon Falls were an optical illusion, which hasn't quite been
captured in the photo, but it looks like the waterfall is coming down
from the sky.
On arriving at Whistler we had 3 1/2 hours to wander the village.
Enquiries at the Visitor's Centre regarding the cloud cover on the
mountain convinced me that there wasn't going to be much of a view so
gave that a miss. I would like to come back here though in summer
and do the
Peak2Peak.
The
mountain is used year round, even when there is no snow for
skiing. It was fun watching the cyclists getting down and dirty
on the mountain. I think I know a few people who would love to
have a go at that one.
I got rather lost, and wet, on the way round the village, but had fun
in the shops. In one of them I had to ask directions back to the car
park. My map was a bit soggy, but got a new, dry one, as a
souvenir.
On getting back to the bus, one of the guys said he had done the
gondola up the mountain, and although there wasn't much of a view of
the village below, he got some great shots of the top of the mountain,
and the bears up there. Should have gone after all.
An early night tonight, have to be up at 3.30 to make my Boston flight.
