Day 2

Saturday 2nd October

Breakfast at 7am, on the bus by 8 to drive to Maligne (pronounced Maleen) Lake for a cruise, option 3 on the list.  On the way there we passed by the river that Rose-Marie (Nelson Eddy & Jeanette MacDonald) was filmed, Tarek entertained us with 2 songs from the soundtrack, Rosemarie and Indian Love Call.  The rock in the middle of the river with a tree growing out of it is where filming was done.  Been a while since I've seen the movie so I can't remember if she got her Mountie or not.

The scenery was breathtaking, especially when we got to Spirit Island.  There are 2 popular stories about where the name Spirit Island came from.  1 was about an artist and other an Indian legend, read this and you can decide which one you prefer.  I hope you enjoy the photo's as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Back at the hotel at 1.30 with some free time, so got the laundry done.  Finally got Bigpond working again, thanks for your help Matt, and sent an email out.   8 of us piled on the bus for the Mount Edith Cavell nature walk, option 4 on the list.  Once again the scenery was awesome, it's amazing how the glaciers just hang there, but we did hear some rumblings which indicated glacial movement.  Got some good photo's there too.  After the walk the driver dropped us all off at Papa George's for dinner, after a short guided drive around town.  More good food and beer. :-)  Had some fun on the drive trying to get a photo, at the right angle, of Old Man Mountain.  The last pic is supposed to be it but I still don't think I got the angle right.   These pics are probably better than mine.

The driver was nice enough to pick us all up again after dinner, save us the walk back to the hotel, which probably wouldn't have done me any harm, but at 8.30pm, after a busy day, the ride home was more than welcome.  It's another early night tonight as the cases have to be packed and outside our rooms before breakfast.  We have an 8am set off for Banff.

There's another short story for you, but I think the photo's tell a story of their own.
