Back in Vancouver
The bus dropped me and a few other passengers off in front
of the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel, very impressive looking place too. I
check into my room, find out how far it is to walk to the Rosedale to pick
up my battery. Oh did I tell you they did find it? Well, they
did and I am now going to retrieve it and save myself some dough by not
having to buy another spare.
It's not a far walk so I figure I can do that until I had taken 2 steps
from the hotel, where I am asked by an American "tourist" if I can help
him, he has a map in his hand, I showed him mine and said, "sorry mate,
I'm probably as lost as you". He told me which way I needed to go
and said he'd walk part way with me, but before that could he ask me for
more help. I'm sure some, if not all, of you have come across
the old sob story somewhere around, this one wasn't very imaginative, he'd
been having coffee in the coffee shop round the corner and had his wallet
stolen, his passport, credit cards and cash blah blah and he was to catch
a flight in 2 hours and needed bus fare to get to the airport. Yeah
Right Mate, I was born at night but it wasn't last night. At least
the guy in Perth says his girlfriend has gone into labour and he needs the
money to call a taxi. What ever happened to calling an ambulance?
That number's free. Anyway, another fun experience on my travels,
can't let the trip get boring now can we.
By now it's starting to get rather dark and I know I'm going to get
lost so back to the hotel, grab a cab and get there and back a lot quicker
than if I'd have walked it. Now it's time for dinner, I seem
to be doing a lot of eating these days, but the food is so good, and no
cooking or washing dishes is wonderful. Back in my room and time
to load photo's and get connected to the net to check and send emails and
hit the sack. Breakfast in the restaurant and a final wander around
Vancouver. No sign of snow today though, the weather must have known
I was due back on the mainland and sent the sun instead. I walked
to the bottom of the street where I had seen glimpses of the harbour from
my window. It's a beautiful day for a walk and I have an hour and
a half to kill. There is a building on the harbour called Canada
Place, it is built in the shape of a ship and their is a story to the sails
that at the moment escapes me, but I will check it out on the net and put
it here at a later date.
On my way back I went down a different street where I passed a store front
that had animated characters from Narnia in the windows. I took some
photo's but being on a main road you can see reflections from the street,
I just hope you can see beyond those to the actual subject of the photo.
Back to the hotel and grab a cab to take me to the station for my Jasper
trip.
