On December 24th I left Perth for a 3 week trip to Singapore.
The main reason for the trip was to attend the wedding of a work
mate. I had a great time over there and saw quite a lot. I
was lucky enough to have my own personal guide sometimes, one of Sandy's
friends', Vincent, was most helpful in giving me information on how to get
around the island and the places to visit. I had no fear of travelling
around on my own, although I don't ever remember seeing one police officer
on my travels. The MRT (mass rapid transport) system there was so easy
to travel on. I went from one end of the island to the other one day,
I can't remember how long it took but I know I had plenty of time on the
way back to stop off at many of the villages and have a look at the local
markets in each area.
Singapore is a very clean and pretty country, no grey concrete stanchions
to be seen on their freeway overpasses, each one was covered in flower
and vines, the flowers were mostly geraniums and orchids in many different
colours. Truly a pretty sight to see after our plain freeways here
in Perth.
I didn't get to see all the sights of Singapore but I did manage to get
to:
Jurong Bird Park
- This is an interesting site to see all the attractions at the bird park.
You can also click on any of the thumbnails that are travelling in
the top left corner of the page for some info on each bird.
Jurong Crocodile Paradise - Unfortunately the crocodile & reptile
park don't have a website.
Sentosa Island - My apolgies
for linking to a site with an ad, but it's a good site to see the attractions
on Sentosa.
Haw Par
Villa - I wouldn't recommend taking the kids on the river ride. You'll
understand why when you see the theme on that ride. There rest of
the village can be fun though.
There are no photo's from the bird park as no camera could ever do the
colours of some of the birds justice, especially the flamingos. I
couldn't even begin to describe the colour, it is a sight that has to be
seen in person. I did the bird park on the mono rail so I was looking
down at most of the areas of the park, and that is when you get the full
effect of the brilliance of a flock of flamingos.
I hope you enjoy this short trip of Singapore.
