Singapore 1992/93

My first night in Singapore.
At Lau Pa Sat market. Ouside one of the shopping complexes decorated for Christmas. Another shopping complex. This was my favourite. I'm just sorry I didn't get more of this one.
Singapore really know now to dress up their city centre.
by the way, remember this pic, it changes soon. The guy in the striped shirt, and the lady behind, are Wilson and Ah Fung. Vincent (my guide) is standing on my right.
The view from my bedroom window.
Because of the size of the island and the growing population, Singapore is mainly made up of apartment complexes such as this. New Year's Eve we had a huge night.
Went ten pin bowling about 11pm....saw the new year in there.
Then we went walking around looking for a place to eat.
I couldn't believe how many people were out with small children, eating, at 3 in the morning.
You had to queue for a seat everywhere you went. Did you see that guys? Ok, a few pics back I told you to remember one in particular,
that was because this is the same building.
I was lucky enough to have Chinese New Year fall in the 3 weeks I was there.
One night this building was all blue and white. Vincent took me back the next morning to see a complete transformation.
Every Christmas display in the city had been replaced with the year of the Rooser displays in red and white or red and gold. This is in the centre of one of the complexes.
The wedding day. After the ceremony we went down to a park at the beach where Sandy & Ngoi Keng had photo's taken.
Here we are with Maria, another work mate. A Singaporean bride has 3 outfits on her wedding day. The first is the traditional wedding dress as in the previous photo.
The second is the traditional Chinese dress for the tea ceremony.
This is where the bride and groom go to visit their parents at their homes and serve them Chinese tea. Here we are at the reception. Can you work out which one is me? :-) I just wish I had a photo of the 3rd, party gown for you to see, it was a rainbow of colours. We all went on a boat trip across to Sentosa Island. Here is the Merlion that greets you when you arrive.
I would recommend making a trip here but you have to stay till after dark to see the lazer light music show.
I wish I could bottle it. It was awesome. In the museum on the island. I'm glad I don't have to do my shopping with these.
The dragon above the entrance to Haw Par Villa. A very interesting place.
The mouth to the dragon is the opening of a canal boat ride, you need a strong stomach to do this one as it tells of the torture of sins, with sound effects, for example, what happened to adulterers in ancient times.
Not recommended for children at all. Another section of the outside wall to Haw Par. There are many interesting things inside this place, like the museum or the play in the amphitheatre. An old market type place where you can go and visit any type of fortune teller you like.
They do cards, palms, coins, numerology and many others.
The one I went to used 3 metal discs that were shaken in a turtle shell.
It was very interesting, but I really needed Vincent here, the guy didn't speak a word of English. Next to the bird park is the Jurong Crocodile Paradise.
It was interesting to learn on our way around the park that the croc's they have came from Western Australia.
It took me quite a while to get up the nerve to so and have this photo taken.
The guy finally coaxed me into it by coming with me.
