| I was born on 14th February
1954, in Warrington, at the Victoria Park maternity home, which you will
see in my UK 2002 album. I lived in Latchford for the first 5/6 years with
my mum, dad, dad's parents and over time 3 of my 4 brothers. Andy
was born once we moved to Fearnhead sometime before April 1961. I went to
Padgate Primary School and Woolston Secondary Modern School. I also
attended dancing lessons at Appleton's in Winmarleigh Street, and Jim Brennan's
in Wilson Patten Street. There are not many photo's in this album
at the moment, I do hope to get some more in here at some stage, but you
know how it is finding time to go through that huge box and then scanning
them. If you have any photo's that you could contribute I would really
appreicate it as we did leave quite a lot behind when we left England. I
would really love to have more photo's of my school days, especially the
trip we did to Normandy & Brittany in I think it was 1966. I would
also love to have some of my 1st trip back to England in 1986 when we had
a school reunion at the Ring O' Bells. For those of you reading this who have no knowledge of Warrington, I will post a link for you to check out, but briefly it is a town between Manchester and Liverpool that used to be known for it's wire production, the Wolves rugby league team were once called The Wire. Dad used to take me to the home games whenever he could. Although I came from a small village, life was pretty good,. In school holidays I used to work at the small farms picking potatoes and beetroots. It was hard, dirty work, but it was pretty good pay for a kid back then. I also delivered newspapers morning and afternoon and on the weekends, and also helped out at the local newsagents. I was trying so hard to save up to buy my Grandad's Lambretta when he got too old to ride it. Didn't happen though because in May 1969 at the age of 15 my family left Warrington for a new life in Perth, Western Australia. |
